“Stanhope resident Marty Bischoff sent a photo of himself in Afghanistan to The Township Journal.
He wrote: “I’ve been here since May as part of the 82nd Airborne Division (Army) and I’ll return home in about two months. We try to do as many humanitarian aid projects as the environment allows. These shirts are from Kevin Shannon and Lenape Valley High School. This child is from the Kuchi nomadic tribe near the village of Torkham. Torkham Gate is the main Afghanistan-Pakistan border crossing at the mouth of the Khyber Pass. The rest of the shirts were given to the tribal leaders for distribution.
Kevin Shannon is the coach of the team, and lives in Stanhope near me. The High School and team supplied the shirts.”
- The Township Journal, 18th February, 2010.

We sent over 100 Lenape Valley Lacrosse T-Shirts to Afghanistan with a couple of Coach Shannon’s friends who are serving: Command Sergeant Major Anthony Riccio and the guy above, Colonel Martin Bischoff, both big supporters of the lacrosse program, they handed out shirts to local children and tribal leaders in sections of southern Afghanistan.Marty e-mailed the Journal from Afghanistan and sent along a story with it. Anthony returned home last week and Marty will be home in 2 months. Our thanks have been passed on from the lacrosse program as a whole.
